Privacy Policy for MicroStreams Apps

Last updated: April 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy covers the iOS and macOS apps published by MicroStreams LLC ("MicroStreams," "we," "us," or "our") — including School Avoid, Calendar Split, Selects, Reframe, DiamondSky, and the MicroStreams plugin suite for Motion and Final Cut Pro. It is separate from the MicroStreams Platform privacy policy, which covers our physical-items service at microstreams.co.

Summary

  • No accounts. None of our apps require you to sign up or log in to MicroStreams.
  • No MicroStreams servers. We do not run a backend that stores your data.
  • No tracking, no ads, no analytics SDKs. We do not embed advertising or behavioral-analytics frameworks in our apps.
  • Your content stays on your device unless you explicitly choose to use a feature that sends it elsewhere (for example, pasting your own API key to use an external AI service).

1. What we collect

MicroStreams does not collect personal information from app users. We do not have a server that receives or stores data from the apps. Any data the apps access — calendars, location, media files, project files — is processed on your device and stored on your device.

Some apps include optional features that connect to third-party services you configure with your own credentials. Those services have their own privacy policies, described in Section 4. Using those features is your choice.

2. Per-app details

School Avoid (iOS)

  • Location — optional. If you grant location permission, iOS monitors geofence regions around your selected schools so the app can suppress alerts when you are far away. Coordinates never leave your device. The app works without location — alerts will show for all selected schools based on time only.
  • Addresses you type — when you enter commute route addresses, they are geocoded via Apple's MapKit to find schools along your route. Apple's MapKit terms apply; we do not see these addresses.
  • Bell schedule data — a directory of U.S. schools is bundled inside the app. When you opt in to "Update Schedule from Web," the app fetches the corresponding district website and parses the bell schedule locally. If you optionally paste your own Anthropic API key to enable PDF schedule parsing, PDF files are sent to Anthropic using your credentials.
  • Notifications — the app schedules local notifications and Live Activities on your device. No push notifications, no remote notification server.

Calendar Split (iOS)

  • Calendar access — the app reads your calendars via Apple's EventKit framework with your permission. Filtering and tag logic runs on your device.
  • Tags and annotations — any private tags or annotations you create are stored locally on your device and never written back to the shared calendar.
  • No data is transmitted off your device.

Selects (macOS)

  • Media files — you choose video and audio files to import. Files remain in their original location; the app stores references and project data locally.
  • Transcription — you can run transcription on-device (using Apple's speech frameworks) or with a third-party service if you provide your own credentials. When you use a third-party transcription service, audio is sent to that service under its terms.
  • Translation / voice dubbing — optional features that send text or audio to services you have configured with your own API key. These features are off by default.
  • FCPXML export writes files back to your disk; no data leaves your Mac as part of export.

Reframe (macOS)

  • Project files — Reframe reads Final Cut Pro timelines (FCPXML) and referenced video files from your disk.
  • Face tracking — performed on-device using Apple's Vision framework. No images or analysis results are transmitted.
  • Exports write new FCPXML files and rendered media to your disk.

DiamondSky (macOS)

  • Media indexing — DiamondSky reads clip metadata, thumbnails, and FCP library structure from drives you point it at. The index is stored locally on your Mac.
  • Face clustering — uses Apple's Vision framework on-device. Face embeddings stay local and are used only to group clips containing the same person.
  • DiamondSky does not upload media, metadata, or any index contents to an external service.

MicroStreams Plugins for Motion / Final Cut Pro (macOS)

  • Our Motion and Final Cut Pro plugins run inside the host application. They process the image data Motion or Final Cut Pro provides and return modified image data.
  • They do not collect any personal information, do not connect to the network, and have no access to anything outside the host effect pipeline.

3. Permissions we request (and why)

When an app needs access to something iOS or macOS protects, you will see a system prompt. You can revoke any permission at any time in system Settings.

  • Location (School Avoid) — to suppress alerts when you are far from a school.
  • Notifications (School Avoid) — to deliver local no-school-today and milestone notifications.
  • Calendar (Calendar Split) — to read your calendar events so the app can filter them.
  • Files / folders (Selects, Reframe, DiamondSky) — to read and write the project and media files you select.

4. Third-party services (when you enable them)

Our apps do not ship with advertising networks or analytics SDKs. The only way data leaves your device is through optional features you turn on with your own credentials. Currently those may include:

  • Anthropic (Claude API) — if you paste your own API key in School Avoid to enable PDF schedule parsing, or in Selects for AI-assisted features. Anthropic Privacy Policy.
  • Deepgram — optional cloud transcription in Selects. Deepgram Privacy Policy.
  • ElevenLabs — optional voice translation/dubbing in Selects. ElevenLabs Privacy Policy.
  • Apple MapKit — used by School Avoid for geocoding and routing. Subject to Apple's privacy policy and MapKit terms.

MicroStreams does not receive, log, or proxy any of this data. Requests go directly from your device to the service under your credentials.

5. Data retention and deletion

Because we do not store your data on our servers, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Everything the apps hold lives on your device. You can:

  • Delete all app data by deleting the app (iOS) or moving it to the Trash (macOS).
  • Revoke system permissions at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security.
  • Remove any third-party credentials you entered by clearing them in the app's settings.

6. Children's privacy

Our apps are not directed at children under 13 and do not knowingly collect information from them. Because we do not collect personal information at all, there is nothing age-specific to gate. School Avoid is intended for parents and commuters, not students.

7. Crash reports and diagnostics

If you opt in to sharing diagnostics with Apple in iOS or macOS Settings, Apple may send crash reports and anonymized usage data to app developers. We may receive such reports from Apple. These reports contain no personal information and are used only to fix bugs. This is controlled entirely by your Apple system settings — we do not trigger or request it.

8. California privacy rights

As a California-based company, we comply with the CCPA and CPRA. Because we do not collect personal information from app users, the usual access / deletion / opt-out requests do not apply to app data. If you have used microstreams.co itself, see the Platform Privacy Policy for those rights.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our apps evolve. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. If changes are material — for example, if a future app starts collecting information — we will describe the change here and, where applicable, in the app.
